Larry & I are going to bite the bullet and be the event directors for the Sat. Oct. 4 event at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.  WE WILL NEED A COURSE DESIGNER! Right now the event is listed as W,Y, O.  I will be checking next week to be sure we will be allowed off-trail to do an Orange (SCEE is preserved in partnership with the Natural Lands Trust, with strict rules about when (non-growing season) and when off-trail events can happen.  If we can't do Orange, we can do a trail-only score-O.

SCEE is a nice area, with lots of great scenery (and hills!).  Very easy to get to from either in or outside of Philly.  I'm going to be offering my middle-school students a major incentive (extra-credit grade bribes) to attend.  Be ready to sign up as volunteers, please!  Great opportunity for a newbie course designer, since there will not be a full slate of courses.

Note: this event is SATURDAY, rather than the usual Sunday, so that SCEE staff will be there to have the building open (bathrooms!).  This means hanging flags either Friday night or Sat. AM.  With the limited number of courses, we should be able to do this in the AM.

If only allowed on trails, you might want to throw in an option of a short relay or even a sprint course.

John, that is probably what we will do (if we can't do an Orange).  A beginner clinic at 11:00 and a Sprint or relay at Noon.

It's official; we can do a White, Yellow and Orange at SCEE!  Now we need a course designer.  SCEE does have a few restrictions: stay to the left of the driveway (the side that the building & parking lot is on, the other side is more strictly a preserve), stay on the trail in Penn's Native Acres (the largest fenced-in area) and avoid the steepest slopes on the Ravine loop trail sloping down to the stream. Even with these restrictions, we have a really nice area for out courses; this is a great area for beginner-intermediate.

    We'll have a beginner's clinic at 11:00, and regular start (10:00 - 1:00) for Yellow, Orange, and walk-in (non-clinic) White.

So - if you are itching to use your course design skills, let me know - please!
