French Creek Thank Yous

Topic created by Gillettejw on Mon May 5, 2014 at 8:32 amIt was a glorious weekend at French Creek State Park this weekend!! Ed Scott continued his successful run as the MASOC director with Mark Frank as the compliment to the Dynamic Duo as Course setter. Many stories to tell there, but we will save them for another post. What I will highlight in this post is the great efforts of our volunteers for the Sunday Event. Starting again with Mark Frank....immeasurable thanks for a great set of courses and a coolness under fire with an uncooperative tenant out on the course. Mark rolled with the punches and had everything ready to go on time for Start. Mark also did a great job making sure that we had maps for some unforcasted numbers. Thank you to Mary Frank and Ed Scott who helped out from start to finish. Ed set controls, helped in and around registration, cleaed up registration area, and picked up controls. Mary, saved the day with a last minute Express Registration list and canopy, then manned Registration and filled in on e-punch all day. Thanks to our great e-punch crew, Sam Kolins and Kathy Urban. The computer ran smoothly and the battery even lasted!!. Thanks to Dave Morgan who took on Registration and has the distinction of being the first to accept a completed Lucky 7 card (yes we had one turned in!!!). Bob Agosta was our Start for the day along with Mark Frank. We banished him off to the we woods and he kept things on track. Thanks also to Ron and Ali Bortz who helped set up and tear down. They made the clean up run very smoothly. And finally, thanks to the overwhelming support of the pick up crew. Aside from Mark Frank and Ed Scott, we had eight volunteers. In no particular order, thanks to Dave Urban, Scott Thatcher, Ron Wood, Bob Agosta, Bob Gross, Petr Hartman, Bob Fink, and Sam Kolins. You made control pick up go as smoothly as I have seen anywhere. And so we close out MASOC weekend successfully for a 26th year. Looking forward to more adventures as the Orienteering year continues.

Reply by edscott on Mon May 5, 2014 at 6:02 pmCheck the winner of Sunday's yellow. She did her first ever Orienteering as part of an environmental Science class on a Google aerial photo at Twin Valley HS last Tuesday in the rain, then as part of the same class did the French Creek Permanent course on Friday. Sunday she did a 10.08/K yellow (good for a 4th place trophy if she had run as a Boy Scout on Saturday) and this afternoon, as the wrap up for the class, she did a 22 minute sprint length course of Orange difficulty on the hill across from the French Creek office. Springton Manor is next on her list.
