RouteGadget Blocked on Mac Safari
-
Topic created by LarryG on Sun Feb 23, 2014 at 11:31 pmOh oh, after months of warnings that this would happen due to Java security issues, RouteGadget and Splitalyzer are now totally blocked on my MAC. Using Safari 7.0.1 and OS 10.9.1. Does anyone else have this problem and know a workaround?

Reply by furlong47 on Sun Feb 23, 2014 at 11:39 pmYou need to go into the Java configuration (not sure where that is on a Mac, but in Windows it is under start menu, all programs, Java, configure Java). On the security tab you have two options - 1) add DVOA's routegadget site (and any other clubs' routegadget sites you may use) under the exception site list or 2) reduce the security level to a point where routegadget will run after a security promptThere is a new version of Routegadget available with a Java-free UI, so I imagine if that upgrade eventually gets installed here there will no longer be a problem.

Reply by edscott on Mon Feb 24, 2014 at 1:23 amI use a Mac and almost everything works for me. Using Safari 5.1.10 & OSX 10.6.8. I did update Java a few months ago. Several years ago I lost the function of viewing the animated head to head view. Every once in awhile it works, but usually it doesn't.

Reply by BobGross on Mon Feb 24, 2014 at 9:22 amMy Java Apps are also blocked. All those with newer versions of OX need to update to the new JAVA version 7. MACs running older than OX 10.7 don't seem to have the same problems but are more vulnerable to JAVA security holes. JAVA 7 will not run in Chrome.
Here's a link to the Java FAQ page where you can download the updates.
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_mac.xml
After installing the JAVA update you'll need to go into System Preferences and set the security to medium, less secure but still better than the old days.
In the system preferences you will see a JAVA icon clicking on it will open a JAVA console window. Go to the security tab. Set the security level to medium and enable Java content in the browser. When opening the routegadget page you will be prompted to activate the java app. click "activate and remember" so you won't need to do this everytime.
Julie had mentioned the non JAVA version of routegadget. I'm afraid many Windows users with older versions of IE will not be able to run the HTML5 version. We'll look into it and see how it runs.
Hope this helps

Reply by bradleyhall on Mon Feb 24, 2014 at 10:12 pmRoute gadget is blocked for me using Windows 7.I have attempted Julie's suggestions of adding DVOA to the Java security allowances, tried adjusting Java security down to medium, the lowest allowable setting, tried route gadget in Chrome, MS IE, and Firefox. Unfortunately, I am still stuck. If anyone has success accessing Route gadget with Windows 7, please share what you are using.

Just a FYI,
I was also blocked also using IE/Windows 7. It worked once I "allowed" route gadget through Java.

Reply by o-maps on Mon Feb 24, 2014 at 11:20 pmlooks like RG just came out with a Java-free version of the software. Could we use that?

Reply by furlong47 on Tue Feb 25, 2014 at 0:46 amI am using Windows 7, Bradley (w/Chrome 33). Java security is set to Medium, and it works here.

Reply by Vadim on Tue Feb 25, 2014 at 12:15 pmThere is a Java-free UI released and we might look into new version. For now, set your Java security settings to the minimum. It's NOT a RG problem, it's overall security problem with Java itself.

Reply by LarryG on Wed Feb 26, 2014 at 2:37 amnice explanation here - https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xmlThe application that you are running is blocked because the developer has not met with the security guidelines implemented in Java 7 Update51.
It is in your best interest to contact developer or publisher of this application and let them know about the application being blocked. -
Reply by BobGross on Thu Feb 27, 2014 at 5:07 pmI've installed the HTML version of Route Gadget. This one should not have any JAVA problems.
Some members have done tests and I haven't heard of any problems. I did notice IE6 is not supported. A quick test in IE7 looked good.
MAC versions should now see the animation we've been missing for some time.
Splitalyzer still relies on Java so we'll have the same Java security issues until there's a fix available. If anyone hears of one let me know.
If you have any problems post a reply or contact me through the webmaster link below.
Thanks

Reply by edscott on Thu Feb 27, 2014 at 7:02 pmYES!!! Glad to see the head to head option works again for MACs. Of course I already knew where I messed up last week. ...Hitting the unexpected green and then making a bad choice on how to handle it.
