Looking for help with RouteGadget

Topic created by bradleyhall on Tue Jun 18, 2013 at 9:45 pmWe are trying to upload to Routegadget for the first time. I know how to get the appropriate garmin ".fit" file off the garmin watch. It looks like like we can upload gpx files to routegadget. I figured out how to convert gpx files to fit files. But I cannot figure out how to convert the opposite: fit files to gpx files.First is this what I need to do, or am I missing something? And if so, can someone advise how to convert fit files to gpx files in order to upload to routegadget?

Reply by Sandy on Wed Jun 19, 2013 at 7:36 pmHi - Sorry, but I don't know how to do this. I know there are several people in the club that do, so hopefully someone will respond eventually.

Reply by rpboehme on Wed Jun 19, 2013 at 7:53 pmIf you have a Garmin Connect account, you can export the route as a TCX file. Then upload it from your PC to routegadget using the little GPS link in the upper right hand corner of the routegadget webpage for the map you wish to upload to.
You'll need to drag little blue dots to make the garmin file resemble your actual route. I still struggle a bit with it.

Reply by furlong47 on Wed Jun 19, 2013 at 9:29 pmThis is a website I use for converting .tcx to .gpx (and other types of conversions) but I don't think .fit is a filetype it uses.I just noticed Routegadget can apparently handle .tcx now. I don't think it was like that originally and I was still converting the file first. Haha.

Reply by DSevon on Sat Jun 22, 2013 at 11:44 amSorry that I missed this thread; I was in Missouri the past couple of days for a job interview. Julie's instructions give the method that I also use to load routes. While RouteGadget does allow for a couple of formats, it appears that the gpx format is the only one that properly puts the route in place (assuming a georeferenced map). Since I now have the georeferencing part of the overall process to setup an event understood, you should be able to count on all events to have a georeferenced map.
Since this topic comes up periodically, I'll get together with Bob Gross so we can include RouteGadget instructions somewhere on the DVOA website.
