Anyone have a good way to organize old maps?  Our collection is just a lot of maps in a plastic tub.  Dave tries to organize them once in a while, but they get disorganized pretty quickly.  As a side note, I just saw an old Irish 3 day map called Croaghmeenare 2010, which is Irish for "kill me now, I'm not getting out of here alive".  That was the most lost I ever got orienteering and the nicest day of a wonderful vacation.  Boy, I sure like orienteering!

    Kathy you are hilarious!
I am eagerly awaiting replies on this one.  Though I only have a year's worth, my maps are already a mess!

Mine were organized, once. I need to get them back in line! I have three plastic drawers full of maps, and I had them in alphabetical order with all maps of the same park paperclipped together. I write the date on the back of the map and I have a text file on my computer with some info from each event... date, map, course I ran, my time, and placing. I have a second file where I list course length, climb, and number of controls with a lifetime total. However, I haven't kept up with these and I have a huge stack of maps waiting to be filed...

I think a lot of people put them in binders with some system such as by state or by year. I have found that my drawer system quickly devolves into a mess as I dig through to pull a map out and then just toss it back on top.

And I have 18+ years worth of maps!

I  have a file cabinet dedicated to maps. I have tried to keep them by state, county and local designations, but since I am living with a librarian they have all migrated to Alphabetized. I use the ones for maps that I design or direct on, the rest just sit there. Not really sure why I keep them. BTW Julie, I have as many years, but for 2 - 5 people for some of those years. I also have some gifts from Moscow. Now that brings back memories that I never had.

I still have every map that I've ever used for a timed run.  Batsto was number 678. There is a folder for each DVOA venue in alphabetical order and the maps inside each one are in more or less chronological order... a folder for HVO and QOC locals.. a folder for A Meets by host club DVOA, HVO, West Point, QOC, and RMOC and another one for for Misc A events. All are stuffed into one 27" long file drawer.  Also have a box of unfolded mint copies of a variety of maps under the bed. Way too many maps here.

Ashland Nature Center 5/15/1983.  When I looked it up I realized I have another folder of courses I've run .. Old B/W O maps.  That's one Kathy won't need to worry about.
