This is from a letter from PA Parks.... info newsletter....  I will try to inform you all each time I receive it.  Cross Country Skiing info link and Friends information is interesting stuff...Also their Calendar of Events link...

Work and Play in the State Parks and Forests

    Header

It's back to work - for us and for the park and forest volunteers. The first Saturday of the month means that the Friends of Ohiopyle and Ridley Creek will be back to work; on Sunday, the Friends of Nockamixon will be back at post-Sandy trail repair. I assume this is correct on all accounts. Weather permitting is the phrase of the day so you'd be wise to contact each group and make sure of the whats and wheres.

Especially important this year (if the precipitation should happen to continue through 2013), is the DCNR Winter Report. I just love this link! Click on your activity and find out the snow conditions in the parks that support it. If you happen to like cross-country skiing like I do, the Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing link can take you to those places, too.

Right now, when it comes to living vicariously, I've been keeping an eye on the Pennsylvania Cross Country Skiers Association webcam on Laurel Ridge.

Note that there is a Beginners Hike with the Ridley Hikers meet-up group also scheduled for Sunday. Don't know if they turn that into a snowshoe!

I see also that Bald Eagle State Park is instituting a First Friday Adventures series beginning this afternoon at 3:30. What a lovely way to kick off the Resolution to go outside more!

For other suggestions on where to go and what to do throughout the year, check in with the PPFF Calendar of Events, the DCNR Calendar of Events and the DCNR Conservation Volunteers website for lots of ways to get out and play.

Thanks for the info on parks and activities.  I would also like to let people know that the outdoors club of south jersey has a full schedule of activities all year long, posting about 5 activities each week.  They include short or long hikes, backpacking, kayak and canoe trips as well as trail maintenance all year. We maintain the 52 miles of the Batona Trail in the pine barrens.  Visit www.ocsj.org and click on an activity.  pat burton

I just wanted to check with DVOA members if someone would like to talk with me ... about hosting either a Wed Jan 1, 2014    ....     DVOA special New years 2014 mass start Orienteering hike, or a Jan 5th sunday event as being better schedule wise?  Please contact me by/before  April 14 th at quail Hill O hike  to hash out a likely map location on the delaware somewhere.  Scout Groups and Junior groups can also help out or run the whole thing,., I might be course setter, or not depending if you want the ED glory and org duty or not

We might join in and be a first day hike Orienteering event in a state or local park

Let me know by end of march please - Let s think out of the Box.
