Is anyone going to a 1 Jan new years day day Hike? I see a few in NJ (Like Ringwood state forest in Ringwood, NJ 1 pm start), another at Monmouth Battlefield (no muskets please, 11 am fyi) it seems to have been started as an outdoors 2-4 mile hike activity last year, and they claim to have these 1/1/13 no fee hikes in all 50 states? There is even one in Washington Crossing State forest, maybe next year (2014) we can support this with a Washington Crossing 1st Day O event :-) . Let me know. See you in the woods...

New Year's Day is a good time to go on a hike along one of the state park trails, as an annual initiative to help connect with the outdoors continues this year.
Around New Jersey, the state Park Service will conduct guided hikes and other special outdoors activities at 10 locations on New Year’s Day as part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative, beginning with a pre-First Day Hike at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30 at Cheesequake State Park in Matawan.
The national initiative, which involves more than 640 hikes in all 50 states, offers individuals and families an opportunity to get the New Year off on the right foot by connecting with the outdoors at a state park close to home.
“First Day Hikes" are a great way to cure the winter doldrums or burn off those extra holiday calories by ... starting off the New Year with an invigorating walk, hike or
