Topic created by markwalsh on Mon Nov 19, 2012 at 11:36 amI know it was an HVO event .....but who won up at Silas ?
Beautiful day to be running, walking, and stumbling through the woods.
Some tough crafty placements out there yesterday.
Thanks to all those who volunteered and organized the event .......and please keep them coming.

Reply by edscott on Mon Nov 19, 2012 at 12:32 pmI've been checking the HVO site for some results but so far there's nothing there. Here is the spot to watch.#mce_temp_url#

Reply by edscott on Mon Nov 19, 2012 at 12:36 pm...and yes it was a great venue. Afterward I explored the southern part of the map that Brown didn't reach and really enjoyed the rock spurs and ridges with lookouts all along the edge of the hill. Wish we had as much technical terrain to map as HVO does.

Reply by Len on Mon Nov 19, 2012 at 6:45 pmEd, I explored the southern end for 35 minutes. It was full of dramatic features. Too bad for me it was while I was looking for a single control
. I even saw some terrain that wasn't near any course.

Reply by edscott on Mon Nov 19, 2012 at 7:59 pmYes Len I see how that can happen. I wandered around for about 3 hours doing 13 geocaches and only saw 4 controls. Two of them were on the white or yellow course and one was probably on Orange. It will be interesting to check out route gadget and see how close I was to the Green and Red controls on that part of the map.

Reply by BRycharski on Wed Nov 21, 2012 at 0:46 amYes, as Assistant couse setter, I saw deer, turkeys, eagles and Bears (Oh My!). Bears are rare but quite tame and shy in Silas.
The terrain was fabulous and then the Hurricane came and tore up a few trees and formed new rootstocks, PLeas e be patient, I reminded The ED Guy to post the results soon, but due to exhaustion and other reasons unknown to me, Guy and other HVO members are still "checking" the results with his slide rule, so please be patient (Guy, please get er done).
I had the pleasure of helping vet the Silas Condict Park controls (remember Gregory B and Bjorn W did the course designs), lets just say all advanced courses were a lot longer and had more climb untill the sandy storm forced a few really obscure controls off the master map. Thank God for Contes and electronic map printing from a PC. I hope Bjorn can comment on his courses on E Board once the courses and e stick data are traced/drawn to see the various routes. By the way, this was the first O meet I helped at that needed Bjorn's chainsaw skills to clear logs off the trails, well done Bjorn! I did hint last week to consider the longer safer routes, as there are some 30 foot high rock cliffs in the south part of the map.
