    Course Notes

    Tyler State Park

    August 19, 2012

Tyler orienteering is very fast and easy.  If you have ever wanted to move up in category this is the time to do it.

All of the courses will cross park roads so use caution at all times.

There is a disk golf tournament going on at the same time as our event. Please be courteous to the participants.

All advanced courses (orange through blue) will involve the campus of Bucks County Community College.  Please be courteous to the property. There is construction going on which has been marked as out-of-bounds on the map. There are some areas where new grass has been planted. These patches are very obvious and should be avoided. Route choice will be minimally affected.

    Individual course notes:

Orange-Follow orange streamers to your start. The walk to the start will cross a busy park road so use caution.

Brown- Follow orange streamers to your start. The walk to the start will cross a busy park road so use caution. Maps are printed using 1:5000 scale to make it more easily readable.  It will not have a map legend printed on it.

Green- Follow orange streamers to your start. The walk to the start will cross a busy park road so use caution. The part of the course which is on the Bucks County Community College campus is printed on 1:5000 and will be found on the back of your map.

Red- The part of the course which is on the Bucks County Community College campus is printed on 1:5000 and will be found on the back of your map. Some trails in the park have become non-existent. Trails that have significantly diminished have been marked with red X’s on the map. This does not mean that you cannot go there. It just means the trail will be hard to find.

Blue-Welcome to the Tyler Goat Sprint!! The mass start race will begin at high noon.  Please assemble near the start triangle at 11:50am.  (This course can be run separate from the mass start.)

Some trails in the park have become non-existent. Trails that have significantly diminished have been marked with red X’s on the map. This does not mean that you cannot go there. It just means the trail will be hard to find.

A special water station is set up about 2/3rds of the way through the course. It will have 20 oz squeeze bottles of water which can be taken with you. The next leg has mostly open field running with very little navigation. It should give you time to get rehydrated. Drop the bottles at the next control, please do not litter.

After the water bottle drop control there is a leg with some nasty green. Your course has a line which approximates an intermittent trail which appears to have been made by a large mammal. You are free to use your own route to the next control but I would highly encourage using the intermittent trail. It is devoid of brambles.

At the end of the course there is an “urban” sprint section which has been printed using 1:5000 scale and can be found on the back of your map. You are allowed to drop one of these controls.

    Have a great time!!
