At Ridley Dave was thawing out in the car and listening to Rick Steves interview the author of Four Points of the Compass, Jerry Brotton.  The interview was more pertinent to orienteering but the book was very interesting, although it does not seem to have any reference to the only sport that concentrates on orienteering and use of the compass.  So if you enjoy history and geography, go for it.

If you are following events in Syria, Dan Mayland's The Doctor of Aleppo is a novel you must read.  It is very topical, beautifully written, and very moving.  It will break your heart.  From Blackstone Publishing.  I ordered it from Barnes & Noble.
