Franko Farm

Topic created by Steve on Sun Jul 28, 2024 at 9:06 amEvenings in July have come to a close, with the best turnout yet. Thank you to everyone that came to theses events. New friends, old friends, stories to laugh at for years to come. Even dinner is special, with twenty people causing the cook to have apoplexy (We showed up with no notice after the rush had finished). So many people did random items that there is no way I will remember them all. The ad hoc computer crew, who were never asked but always willing: David Radspinner, Sam Kolins, Lena Kushleyva, Vadim Masalkov. The flag clean up: Joey McGarvey, Ian Whitehead, Mary Frank, Paige Suhoki, Rich Boehme. A new name to post, Karen Graffman steped out of her comfort zone to design the courses, and Petr Hartman helped set the flags (Petr also drew the map, so he had a head start on racing, but he was evaluating the changes since the last time he was out there, which slowed him down a bit).Items that always relieve the event director were things like getting park permission (Mary Frank), And sending the kit to the next event (Mary Frank and Dave Morgan). Thanks guys.
One of my favorite memories will be sprint 3. After talking to Lena at Nockamixon, we decided it would be fun to design a short simple course for Nina to be occupied during her parents run. Once it was hung, Vera Baranova was invited. I am not sure who had more fun, the kids or their parents. I know there were a lot of smiles and giggles.I am not sure what is planned for next year, but evening O seems to be growing in popularity. Come join the fun. -

Reply by sfmones on Sun Jul 28, 2024 at 12:59 pmMy thanks to Steve, Sharon, Karen, and all those who put together this summer's Allentown Trifecta. OK, French Creek gets an hononary membership in this year's Allentown venue group. This has now become an annual three-venue summer series. I hear that Finland has some big annual summer event too, but we have Allentown! And, I don't recall any song by Billy Joel named "Jukola."Also thanks to Petr for yet another interesting new map with intricate and accurate details. Franko Farm had some very narrow trails (rides?) between sections of impenetrable green stuff, but it also had some surprisingly nice areas of white woods.Lastly, I think we set a record with 16 of us getting together at Strange Brew in South Allentown after the event.Steve M.

Reply by Steve on Tue Jul 30, 2024 at 5:40 amSam, Lena and Steve, thank you for your kind words. They go a long ways. The dinner started with 16, but the Kolins arrived late (toddler issues) so it was nineteen.Julie, I love the sprint three photos. Vera should end up on the Masalkov wall of fame, and Nina streetching to finish is wonderful. Thanks to all who helped, double thanks to those that came and made the work worthwhile. As for an annual event, well, we'll see.
