What are people's thoughts on RouteGadget2 (the only RouteGadget option that we currently have working)? Do people like/use it?
A bit of background:
Earlier this year we had requests to upgrade from the original version of RouteGadget to the new 3D version that some other clubs have been using. It turns out the 3D version that people liked was RouteGadget3, a new version created by the developer of the original RG, Jarkko Ryyppo. But we instead accidentally upgraded to RouteGadget2, completely new software by a different developer. And it seems to me that no one in the club really likes RG2?
To complicate the situation, we have website hosting issues that broke our setup for the original RouteGadget. Wyatt has been trying to fix it, but with no success. I'm not a web developer, so I really can't do anything to help here. So as of now, we don't have RG1 and are stuck with RG2.
Given this situation, and given the fact that we have Livelox -- do people still want me to post RouteGadget2? I don't mind doing it if there are people that really do strongly prefer RG2 over Livelox. But I don't want to do extra work if people don't like RouteGadget2 and are okay with Livelox. There's also value in having eveyone's routes in one place, rather than split between Livelox and RouteGadget2.
And again, as far as RouteGadget goes, RouteGadget2 is the only option we have right now; RouteGadget1 broke and we don't have a solution.
Please let me know what you guys think.

I had problems with Route Gadget 2 initially, but Wyatt fixed some problems, and I have been able to use it for months.I just started looking at Livelox, and it seems more complicated and less intuitive than either version of Route Gadget, and it is way more than I need at my level. However, I understand other DVOAers may utilize more features of Livelox and probably like its versatility.I guess I can summarize my position by saying I am a noncompetitive orienteer who was, and is, perfectly happy with Route Gadget 1 or 2, but if the rest of the orienteering world is moving to Livelox, I will learn it. Also, in view of the fact that I am not the one incurring time and effort to load all the data, I would defer to you and others, including David.Steve

Reply by furlong47 on Mon Jul 15, 2024 at 4:56 pmI like RG1 the best, RG2 next, and Livelox last. At least on RG2 I can still adjust my route. I also appreciate that it does not require an account. I only use Livelox as a last resort when there's no Routegadget available :( These programs seem to get progressively less user friendly instead of more so, which is backwards if we want the highest number of people to use them.

Ols skul RG was fun, RGII is ok for laying down a course, and I am content with having to learn Livelox. Expect errors and random courses if that is what we need to do.The best features of all of these is learning from and empathizing with your fellow orienteer when things go sideways.Still a tyro,Rich

Reply by LarryG on Fri Jul 26, 2024 at 3:56 pmI have been drawing my routes in RG2, no problem. I have been able to watch replays in Livelox, but didn't know how to draw there until now. But I am also unsure on how to set up an account. Do we have some kind of club license, or should I just get a limited, personal account (with adds)?

Reply by alenka0000 on Sat Jul 27, 2024 at 11:48 pmLarry -- get a free (limited) personal account. The events we post are (at least for now) fall under the license paid by OUSA, so you will get a full feature set when viewing them, as if you had a paid personal account. This applies to all events hosted by clubs in the US.
