I wanted to share a HUGE thank you to everyone who volunteered to make today's event at French Creek North possible! It takes significant effort from many volunteers to put on each of DVOA's events.

Setup and registration - Bob Agosta, Dave Morgan, and Mark Frank
Start - Ravi Ramadoss and Mark Frank
Download - Kyle Sullivan and Wyatt Riley
Control Pickup - Petr Hartman, Mitch Zimmer, Eric Weyman, Mark Frank, Ian Whitehead and Joey McGarvey
    Cleanup - Donna Zimmer

A big THANK YOU to Mary Frank for making today possible as Event Director.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to Mark Frank for helping me as a first-time course setter.  Mark gave up a lot of his time providing detailed feedback and vetting the courses, helping with Condes and spending a day with me setting several controls & bagging maps.  I learned a lot!  Thanks Mark!

I know several of the courses were challenging...I appreciate the positive and constructive feedback on the courses...I hope everyone still had fun!

Thank YOU, Ernie. I had to put to use my best bearing and pace counting skills (which are not my strong points) and move slowly through the woods to have a mostly-successful trek. You provided an excellent challenge to those skills.

Thank you Ernie!  Our club needs a lot of folk to run an event, and a course setter is super-essential.  Don't be dismayed by all the dnfs - FCN has a well-deserved reputation as a difficult map.

I tried my best to pace my distances, and set & follow bearings, but I tend to skew every so slighytly off my bearing which can be deadly in FCN.  Plus the woods were not nearly as "white" as the map.

It was a great lesson for me in "if at first you fail" ...looking more carefully at my map to find out where I REALLY was, finding a new attack point, etc.  But when it got to the time I knew the controls were going to be pulled, said, "c'est la vie" and came in.

Well, at least we had nice weather.  Now I'm curious about the #5 cairn on Brown, since I never did find it.  Was it hiding in the brush, just hard to navigate to, or both?  Anyway, good training for the Queen.

#5 on Brown............... not really "hiding".  Just difficult to navigate to especially due to the vegetation down low
It took me three goes at it and finally found it only 20 meters from where I was twice before. It was behind some thick vegetation coming from the south for the second time. Approaching #5 going east coming from #4 it would have been more visible if you were fortunate enough to come straight at it. For me it was problematic telling distance due to the vegetation since I do not pace count, ever.
