Topic created by Steve on Sun Jul 16, 2023 at 6:03 amWell the first of three events has been a success. It was a team effort. First one to thank is Sandy Fillebrown. When I tried to load the computer I discovered that the OE2010 was no longer there, and we are using the OE12 program. The laminated instructions have not been updated, so I was lost. Sandy made 10 or 12 emails and at least one phone call to get me up to date.
Next was Sam Kollins. When I tried to load the Event Register, I could not get on the page due to a password problem. Sam attempted and failed to get me a password, so I was desperate. Two weeks later the OUSA web master got back to me, and I was so excited I tried to load the page myself. Sam offered to test it, and sent me ten issues I did wrong. It turns out that he put together a template that if I had loaded I could edit a handfull of items, and be good. Now Sam and I traded emails to fix my goofs, and Sam continued right into how to export the data into OE12. Technology is great once you get there, but the trip can be amazing. From there it was easy. Rich Bohme set the courses, with some hints from me. We should have come back closer to event time because one field of stinging nettle went from ankle high to waist high. O pants were not thick enough. (rub some Aloe, it helps)Sharon Siegler was by myside through out. She trimmed raspberries from a trail, and suggested bringing the trailer when we had no restrooms.Sandy worked the computer for a while, as Rich and I did starts. I took the computer over when Sandy went out.Lena Kusheyeva brought a thumb drive, and had results up before I got home. And let's not forget Petr Hartman. Petr cut this map out from the Star village map 15 years ago, and has kept it revised as needed ever since. Then, when he thought he was just coming to jog a race, I asked him to vet the famous stinging nettle flag, which he could not find. He found the depression, but I had the flag about ten meters off in a lower section of nettles that were taller than the flag. After the second search we found it, and put it where all of you could find it, albeit just a wee bit agravated.Several (9) of us went out to dinner, to cap off a wonderful evening. Thanks everyone for coming. Far too much work to not have runners show up. -
Reply by rpboehme on Sun Jul 16, 2023 at 8:08 amAlas, we did go from 6 weeks to drought (when we field checked everything) to 6 weeks of solid rain and that allowed the 'krapiva' (my new Russian word) to flourish beyond any expectations. I guess rough open really means rough open.Cheers,Rich
