O-USA registration for small events

Topic created by chand on Tue May 7, 2019 at 10:49 amThis has probably been asked before...If I wanted to do an event in a Montgomery County park (where you can't collect money at the event), has anyone used the O-USA registration thingy for a small event? I see that it is $15, I am wondering if there is a per-person charge as well. (Sandy F - any info on this?)I was thinking of offering white and yellow for free to walkups, and orange, brown and (maybe) green for pre-registrants.

Reply by JanetT on Tue May 7, 2019 at 11:57 amChris, there's no additional cost per entrant. That only kicks in with sanctioned National events (A meets), where the club pays a sanctioning fee after the fact. I used it for an event in EMPO-land a number of years ago, where we too were not permitted to collect money in the park.

Reply by ErikEddy on Tue May 7, 2019 at 7:22 pmI used it for a couple bike events. It?s dirt cheap. We do pay a paypal fee - something like $0.27+3%

Reply by chand on Tue May 7, 2019 at 8:00 pmThank you all for the replies.I'm wondering if sometimes Montgomery County Parks doesn't restrict us this way - I didn't see anything fancy in the descriptions concerning Green Lane.In any case, glad to know there are options

Reply by furlong47 on Tue May 7, 2019 at 8:15 pmThat's never been a policy that I'm aware of, unless it's new or comes from the manager of one specific park. We also use Norristown Farm Park and Lower Perkiomen and I've definitely paid in cash at all three of those parks. Is this event going to be someplace new?

Been going there off and on for most of my life...It connects to the much larger Pennypack park in Philly but I probably wouldn't use that park...at least not the first time around

Reply by Sandy on Wed May 8, 2019 at 10:40 amFor one park, once we supplied the park with a letter stating that the club had 501(c)3 non-profit status we were suddenly allowed to collect money when previously it had been prohibited. And it came up in a roundabout way - the event was a fundraiser so I asked about donations vs. entry fees and they asked if the fundraiser was for a non-profit and then it came out that DVOA itself was a non-profit and then collecting money was no longer an issue. Not saying this will make a difference in your case, but it might.Using EventReg (the OUSA registration system) is also a solution. It's a bit of a pain to get people to realize they have to register in advance, but I've seen some clubs let people register the day of the event at the park on their phones and show the receipt. It is only $15 and you can either pay it by Paypal or by sending a check. Details on the OUSA website can be found here. If you are just going to use it as a payment system it's easy to set up.
