Thanks to everyone that volunteered at the winter meeting and over the last 5 weeks. We now have a much shorter list of course setters and event directors needed to fill out our 2011 schedule, but we need to fill these final positions ASAP.

Updated list and Bumping the thread. Here's what we still need:

Governor Dick on April 2 needs an Event Director.

Camp Delmont on May 1, both Event Director and Course Setter.  It is West Point weekend but there will be plenty of people looking for a regular event nearby.  We may be offering a scout event on Saturday for a small group which could be the White for Sunday

Hay Creek on May 22, Event Director and Course Setter it is time for someone else to do Hay Creek and I have the Scout event two weeks earlier.

FC East on June 5 .. Event Director

Hickory Run on July 10 Event Director

FC East July 24  Event Director and Course Setter:  I know the FCE events are close together, but I'm thinking this ones could include a sprint in the area around the Baptism Creek Pavilion, and a set of short courses.

Mt Penn Pagoda Aug 7, Event director and Course Setter: this map is still relatively good and I'd like to have a chance to run someone else's course....

Hickory Run Training Weekend Sept 10&11 Fred will probably be recruiting for this too, but he needs Night O and Sunday Course Setters.

Rutgers Environmental Preserve Sept 25 Course Setter.

Fair Hill Mason Dixon October 2, Event Director and Course Setter.

Camp Horseshoe October 23 Event Director

Myrick Center October 29 (night) Course Setter and Event Director.

[Although the October 30th and Nov 13th events appear to be open on the schedule, it is in the hands of a group of volunteers that are working out the details.  I'll post the final data as soon as it is ready.]

I'll edit this post, deleting the entries, as the positions are filled. last edit 3/1/11

Ed, I'm usually the Event Director for the Night O and Sunday event at the Hickory Run Training weekend and I will do it again this year.  So that we only have to find course setters for the events.

Ed, I will also be the Event Director for Bob Gross at Nolde Forest on June 12.  Ok?

I'm glad people are looking at this thread.. but we need people to volunteer or a bunch of events won't happen. The March and April ones are especially vulnerable.

IMO, not having a local event on West Point weekend would do three positive things:

    1.  Inform people that there is a Big-O World out there beyond DVOA-land;

    2.  Encourage those same people to expand their orienteering drive-time comfort zones;  and

    3.  Give the DVOA volunteer pool a well-deserved in-season break.

About 4 years out of 5 West Point schedules their A event over our MASOC event.  I'm really past looking at their schedule.

Is MASOC on a set schedule, like last Saturday in April, or first Saturday in May?

Yes, for 20 years now it has always been the first weekend in May.

Unlike most of the clubs around the country, DVOA has the manpower to schedule the whole year. many smaller clubs have to watch the neighbors schedule to avoid stepping on toes, but we are fortunate to be self sufficient. As far as lengthening our drive time, from Bethlehem to Elk Neck is close to three hours, Northeast Md. to Water Gap is more, so I don't need to stretch my horizons.
