Green Lane

Topic created by edscott on Sat Oct 25, 2014 at 3:09 pmJust got back from a beautiful fall walk at Green Lane. Roger Hartley and I hung the controls and have the road signs out. The signs bring you off 663 or 29 onto Hill Road. Don't go to the Deep Creek Lake parking area, we're up at the North end of the park. Check the map on the schedule page.A few things to keep in mind..... There has been a big storm since we were last there. There are lots of huge unmapped rootstocks making the mapped ones look insignificent. Just ignore rootstocks as navigational markers and look ahead to avoid the big ones. There is tree across a trail that White needs to use. There are some surveyor flags showing the route until you are beyond the damaged area. There is a new trail near a Red & Green control. Someone flagged it with orange streamers. The streamers do not take you to the control. I didn't check the whole trail, but can put the important part on a map and post it at registration.Orange, Green, and Red cross Hill Road. The courses are designed to get runners to cross the road and be back into the woods ASAP. We don't recommend running along the road. It is narrow and traffic is fast.

Reply by Mac on Mon Oct 27, 2014 at 11:39 amNice day in the woods. FYI - I found a copperhead snake right on a trail used by Yellow runners (2 - 3), when I was shadowing Ursula. I moved it off the trail - and it was not a happy camper about the move out of the sunshine.
