Maybe I need a refresher, but how does a DVOA member proove membership?

I'm being ridiculous, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kent devised a way to beam membership information from a cellphone one day soon.

Until then, I really don't know, but it is a great question.

Assuming one is also an OUSA/USOF member, that membership card will do the trick.

I paid my membership dues in cash for the 2010 season (I use my checkbook so infrequently I could not find it).  So I could not prooove I was a member to anyone but myself.  I assume my registration form is on file with the club though.  On a similar note, I told myself this year I would not sign up for anything that involved stamps and checks (so much for New Years resolutions).

I don't think we really have any means of proving membership. The current project of moving the membership database to the web should help in some ways. Once it's online it would be possible to issue membership cards at the time of renewal.

Actually Clem's idea isn't very ridiculous at all. An iPhone or Android app could be written to query the membership database and report back on a member's expiration date. Assuming an ED would have time to check and there would be sufficient signal strength to connect to the net, someone working at registration could easily check.

Obviously I'd prefer to have a demonstrated need for these before actually implementing them.

Assuming all goes according to plan you will be able to renew and pay on line for next year's memberships.

Sounds like Eric is really asking what EMS will accept during this promo.  Anybody know?  I'd just bring along a map, because I bet they aren't going to be too fussy.

I had once tried to use a Promo in University City EMS. The guy behind the counter asked me for proof of membership, and I said that we don't have cards, but gave him the name of the club. It very likely could have been an exception, but he allowed me to use the promotion.

I took advantage of this promo at the last Club day at the Exton EMS, I had my USOF card, an ONA and the Briar Patch with me, I didn't need any of it.  They asked by club I told them and they gave me the discount no problem.  Eric I would think that the Exton EMS might be the one you will be going to so I would think that you should have no problem but I would maybe throw some kind of proof in my car just in case.

You mean proof that you are an orienteer?  How about 2 pairs of filthy running shoes, empty gatorade bottles, ibuprofin, mismatched sox, duct tape, a bunch of maps, etc?  A little control dangling from the rear view mirror?  That odd smell that permeates the car?

EMS went so far as to honor the club discount on Sunday for me, one day after the end of the promotion :)
