Hickory Run Rocks and Hunting

Topic created by sfmones on Thu Sep 16, 2010 at 4:35 pmDo I understand correctly, from the information page about the upcoming A-Event at Hickory Run, that there will be hunting on Saturday in or around the area of our orienteering? If so, are courses being designed to go through known and active hunting areas?

Reply by Vadim on Thu Sep 16, 2010 at 5:29 pmDon't worry, courses are NOT going through hunting areas, however advanced courses might be getting close to these areas. We are taking all necessary measures to make it safe for competitors.

Reply by Nancy on Sun Sep 19, 2010 at 7:55 pmActually, the Saturday middle-distance courses do go through an area where small-game hunting is permitted, so it is a 'known' hunting area.
It is my understanding that experienced small-game hunters don't usually hunt in the afternoon, when the courses are scheduled to run. So we don't expect it to be 'active.'
The park rangers have asked us to require participants to wear colorful clothing (not usually a problem for orienteers), but especially fluorescent orange.
And we will be posting notices at the parking lots around the area about the event to give hunters some advance notice.
