Delaware Greenways Opportunity at Event

Topic created by Jmzaremba on Fri Sep 3, 2010 at 2:26 pmHi All, I'm on the steering committee for a new event the Delaware Greenways is putting on Sunday, Nov. 14 1-3:30 pm at Rockwood Park in Wilmington, DE. It's called the Greenways Gallop, and it's a 1-mile fun run/walk and festival benefiting Delaware Greenways' programs promoting active living. They would like to partner with various organizations for the event, and they are also looking for family-friendly activities for the event. I mentioned that I am a member of DVOA, and they pitched the idea of DVOA possibly doing a hands-on activity during the event. I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in helping with something like this. I'm a relative newbie to orienteering, so I don't think I would be qualified to do this alone, but with the help of 1-2 volunteers, it could be a fun way to introduce some Northern Delaware families to orienteering. I checked, and there's a basic map of the park, so the bones are there to put together a brief introductory course. If you're interested in helping out, give me a call or drop me an email. Joanna Zaremba, 302-571-6998, jzaremba@ymcade.org. Thanks!

Reply by edscott on Tue Sep 7, 2010 at 12:28 pmJust looked at the Google Aerial photo and it looks like an introductory course could be designed just with that data. The "official" park map might be suitable also, but few of them are as they tend to contain loads of labeling to mask a lack of accuracy.
