Topic created by robw on Sat Aug 28, 2010 at 11:27 amThe finale of the Training Weekend and beginning of the regular fall season will occur on Sunday, September 12 at Camp Daddy Allen in Hickory Run State Park. As usual, the event will be headquartered at the dining hall, where registration is located. Starts for the white and yellow courses are less than 100 m. from the dining hall and the other courses start in a field about 350 m. southwest of the dining hall. All courses finish in front of the dining hall, and download is just a few steps away inside the building by registration. Course statistics are as follows:Course Distance Climb No. of controlsWhite 1.9 km. 65 m. 11Yellow 2.8 km. 90 m. 12Orange 4.5 km. 175 m. 12Brown 3.9 km. 125 m. 11Green 5.1 km. 195 m. 13Red 6.9 km. 235 m. 17Blue 8.9 km. 300 m. 17White and Yellow courses will use the 1:5000 scale Camp Daddy Allen map, while the other courses are on the 1:10,000 Sand Spring Lake map. Both maps have contour intervals of 5 m. As stated in the Training Weekend page, registration and start close at noon, rather than 1 pm, in order to allow adequate time for cleanup and closure of the camp area. Control pickup will begin no later than 2:30 pm, and volunteers are still needed. The courses run through one of the most technically challenging areas in DVOAland, and should provide an excellent warmup for the upcoming A meet, which is using terrain just across the road from the Sand Spring Lake map.

Reply by Orienteeringmom on Sun Aug 29, 2010 at 10:51 amThanks Rob for posting all of that imformation, I would like to add one more important fact. That being there really isn't a true registration at Hickory Run on sunday morning. We are requiring that everyone wanting to run a course on sunday whether they are there for the entire weekend or just coming up for the day needs to register for their course with Fred Kruesi so that we have enough maps for everyone. We do not have the facilities or time to draw maps sunday for people that do not register. The map cost for anyone, club member or not that comes sunday and has not pre-registered with Fred will be $9.00 no if ands or buts about it.

We waited too long to sign up for training, and I see it's full. We'll sign up for Sunday with Fred, no problem. Can we come up to run the night o also?
thanks,

Reply by DaveUrban on Mon Aug 30, 2010 at 9:01 pmOK OK lets just pretend I'm a new-to-orienteering person and want to run a Yellow course on Sunday. Who is Fred Cruising and how do I contact him to register? Is there someone I can speak with to get some advice on course selection before registering with Fred?

Reply by Orienteeringmom on Tue Aug 31, 2010 at 9:05 pmKathy, yes you can come for night O and I would suggest you Let Fred Kruesi know that you are coming and what course you want to do. Dave, all of the information for the sunday courses are on the home page of the website. I'm not sure what you were referring to in your posting. If you need something answered all you need to do is click on Fred Kruesi at the very bottom of the announcement and it goes to an email to fill out and sent to Fred. It there something you want answered?
