Famous "Control #35"
-
Topic created by WindWalker on Mon Apr 16, 2012 at 6:50 amOK if you were at Hawk Mountain you know the story with control #35, or see other post.
There were 7 missed punches from control 35, 3 on orange, 2 on brown and 3 on green, there were 65 people that ran the 4 courses that would have had control 35.
So the question is do I give the 7 people that missed punched control 35 credit?
If you ran the orange, brown, green or the red course I would appreciate your opinion on this. A simple yes or no is fine no need for lengthy discussions, had enough of that yesterday.
Please vote as this seems to be the fairest way to settle the matter. I'll give it 24hrs and then Sandy will finalize the results one way or the other.
Thank you.

My vote -- just leave it alone. These things happen. -
Reply by edscott on Mon Apr 16, 2012 at 9:15 amI agree with Kathy. Leave it alone. The flag was outside the slashed area of the rifle range. The intermittantly roped area is not a permanent or well defined boundary.

The lesson is don't follow ropes in the woods keep in contact with the map. That rope was no different than unmapped trails, new man made structures etc. on our maps that we need to filter out as we run. I probably lost 5 minutes in my mistake. My vote is keep it as is.
You did a great job on the green course design and placement of the controls. Hope to see more of your courses in the future. -

A suggestion would be to NC those competitors, on their request, who couldn't find control 35. Those interested in their scores for ranking purposes would get a very low score with a MP or DNF. By scoring them as NC, this would not affect their ranking, but it also would not distort the times or places for your event.
