Ahoy O-mates.  Perhaps I am jumping the gun, but I wanted to ask a question before this ship sails.  The current notice about the upcoming Surf & Turf seems to imply that we should be arranging for our vessels ahead of time through Nockamixon Boat Rentals.  Is that correct?  Is DVOA reserving any canoes?  May we just rent a canoe at the event?  Thank you for any information.

They don't take advance reservations for canoe or kayaks, but the rental area is a short walk from our start/finish area. Prices and hours are on their website.  Check the link on our schedule page.  If you check the rental fees it may be an advantage for two parties to rent a canoe since a single 4 hour rental is less than two separate 2 hour rentals. If you are out the full hour plus the time to and from the rental dock you'll have the boat for a little less than 1.5 hours.  It is not a mass start, so canoe or kayak sharing is possible.

Canoe rental at PA state parks is first come first serve, no reservations, however, if the event director talks to the rental staff ahead, he may be able to get us all a discount.

Talked to two people at the rental agency.  They were not really very helpful and certainly offered no discount... (unless we could come on a mid-week day).  They have a limited number of canoes but do have a bunch of kayaks.  If you want a canoe be there before or shortly after 10. They do not want boat sharing between two teams because of liability. A single user must show a drivers license ID and sign a waiver for each rental.  Limit of two people to a canoe.  It would be good if any club members bringing a personal canoe or kayak could make it available to another team before they head for home....

email Ed Scott for use of a single kayak.

Thank you to all for the responses.  I checked out nockamixonboatrental.com and learned all about the types of vessels available and their rental terms and conditions.  The site states that they have plenty of canoes and kayaks available on a first come-first serve basis.  I also reviewed the latest course setter notes on our site.  It states that all but four controls were hung with the course setter wearing shorts.  I guess the last four were hung when the course setter was not wearing shorts.  Ouch.

Wrong Steve, I didn't hang them, a volunteer did.  I didn't have enough time to get all the way out there and back before dark and I work full time and my weekends have been full so I found a volunteer that did them for me.  Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else on sunday.
