Topic created by camperpat on Sun Mar 21, 2021 at 6:21 pmThanks for a really nice day of orienteering. It was worth the drive and I think I saw most of the camp which looks like a nice place for the scouts! I guess we are all starting out with a bang. I lost my hat at Tyler and I see someone lost their e-punch today. Hope u get it back, someone found my hat and the person who lost their wallet was lucky also. ! Pat and Bob Burton

Reply by MaryFrank on Mon Mar 22, 2021 at 7:44 amA Big Thanks to Eric Silva for all his efforts in being a new course setter!!! It is a big leap to course setter and I heard a lot of positive feedback from the participants.Thank you also to John Gillette for manning the computer all day!!! Dave Morgan for hanging out all day helping as well from Registration to help sort through all of the stuff to get it in my car. Also to all the scouts who helped with set up and start. Meg Hammond for jumping in to help at Registration and Rob Wilkison as well. Also Thanks to Petr Hartman and Mitch Zimmer for control pick up.For all of your information, Rich Howett, John Gillette and I tried to rehash what Dave Prine and Ed Scott had going years ago for the Scouts, a Merit Badge Weekend at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation. We had instructional events all day Saturday and Scouts ran various tasks Saturday and Sunday to try to get their Merit Badge requirements. A Big thank you to Rich Howett for all his efforts in this reenactment. (We lost a few stakes and poles for the control stands but all the control boxes came back!!! Thank you Troop 543 for helping with control pickup.) We had 52 Scouts and 20 Leaders learn about orienteering over this weekend. With our COVID restrictions, it was amazing to be able implement this and see these kids learn - even with them wearing masks all day. Congratulations to these Troops for their efforts!!!!Also a shout out to Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation Staff for letting us take over for the weekend. They kept trying to clean up around us...As you may or may not know, these events don't just happen. There is hours of plannning that goes into them as well as support from various DVOA members from Lena and Wyatt who helped me get EventReg right, to Erik Eddy who helped course consult, Fred Kruesi to making sure the maps were formated correctly for the printer; to Partner's Press who were amazing printing the maps as quick as they had. It's amazing how this Team all came together... My sincere gratitude. Also, I only had to remind one person this weekend to wear their mask. Thank you all. Our permissions are based on our COVID protocals - wearing the mask is one of them. None of us want to wear it, especially the workers who have to wear it all day long. Speaking for the Board, Thank You for helping us make these events as safe as possible through this pandemic by social distancing and wearing your masks!Oh, and it didn't hurt that the weather was PERFECT!! and the woods were Beautiful....

Also thank you to Robert Frank and Bob Fink for helping to set out controls on Saturday, and for all the volunteers who helped collect on Sunday after the event.I learned a lot from this experience, and hope to improve if and when the next opportunity arises. I hope to see everyone at Warwick in April.
