The 2018 DVOA Summer Picnic and Vice President’s Cup will be held Sunday June 10th at Fort Washington State Park.  The event center will be Pavilion #1 which is located adjacent to Parking Lot #1 in the Militia Hill section of the park - follow O-signs from the park entrance off Militia Hill Rd.  Registration will open at 10:00 am with a mass start relay beginning at 11:00 am.

The relay consists of three legs:

    White    1.7 km

    Yellow  1.8 km

    Brown  2.7 km

A regular White Course (2.1 km) will also be offered from 10:00-12:00 for those not participating in the relay.  In an effort to balance teams for the relay, a point system will be used.  Official relay teams must have a minimum of 3 points.  Points are assigned as follows:

1 point:  Junior (20 and younger)

1 point:  Veteran (40 and older)

    1 point:  Female

A single person can count for 2 points if they satisfy two of the criteria above.  If you know your relay team in advance, please send the information (names, point info) to toverbaugh at comcast dot net.  If you don’t have a relay team and would like us to assign you to a team, you can either email me your info ahead of time or let us know at registration the day of the event.  Relays are an exciting and fun format.  The more teams we have participating, the better it will be.

After the conclusion of the relay, we will have lunch in the pavilion.  Please bring a dish to share.  The club will provide grilled burgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs.  After lunch, we will hold the annual summer meeting.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy some (almost) summer orienteering and socialize with other DVOA members!

OK I will bite tom's team formation statements with an observation.  That I guess means that two 34 year old DVOA males (0 points) whom form a team (of 3) with an expectant mother-to-be (has doctors OK note), she's aged 44, is that a official DVOA 3 point relay team?  It does satisfy all the rules, right (1 point for the under 20 kid concept, 1 for F 40, and 1 point for over 40)? :-)  Are there variations allowed?  How about 1 point for all three members being total strangers to each other (each live say in Ct, NJ and PA), and are assigned at random by the CS  or Tom?  Should there be incentive for more between 21 an under 40 members be rigged, Ahem I mean included?  Might increase attendance IMO, using my Robert's Rules copy.  Besides the obvious that F 15's et. al.,  carry a sexist 2 point bonus the M 15(under 20 set)  males only have 1 point, a bit of a downer for us younger set of youths.  Can'  we buy 1 point(s) for  cash charity donation to the DVOA Jr. team trainers fund?  a potential fundraiser here ...

    Bob,

No variations allowed.  If people want to form teams that don't meet the 3 point criteria, they can run as an unofficial team.
