DVOA is excited to return to Tyler Arboretum on Sunday, November 20, 2016! Tyler is a 650 acre sylvan wonderland and the site of many horticultural splendors. We are thrilled to be able to orienteer here once again.

While the normal map fees are in place, because this is a private arboretum, we have to collect an additional admission charge at event registration: $5 for adults and $3 for children 20 and younger. We appreciate Tyler Arboretum's assistance and generorsity in providing discounted entrance fees for event participants.

Parking is in the main Tyler Arboretum parking lots, with overflow parking available in the grass. There will be signs to registration from parking. Registration, download, results, and refreshments are on the patio of the Barn.

Start and finish are both remote. There are two different start locations. There will be signs or streamers from registration to the start(s). There will signs or streamers from the finish back to the Barn.

Please refer to the following event map.

    Walk to start(s)

    1) 750 meters to red and blue start

    2) 1,050 meters to all other courses stars.

Both follow the same trail; red and blue runners will arrive at their start first.

Red and blue start is on the west side of Painter Road. Please use caution when crossing the road.

All courses brown and above have at least two road crossings (Barren Road); red and blue will also cross Painter Road once. Please use caution when crossing the road.

Course statistics (length, climb) are posted on the event page. http://www.dvoa.org/events/sked/index.php

As someone who has done considerable mapping at Tyler and have come to know well a number of the staff and volunteers, I'd like to add the good reasons why Clem used remote locations for both Start and Finish:

All of them are designed to have us run our courses outside the deer-fence-enclosed Arboretum space.  The Arboretum-proper is a magical gardened woods planned and planted and cared for for generations -- there's even a Sequoia on the grounds!  So enjoy your stroll to Start and drink in the surroundings as a recovery elixir on your way back from Finish.  (And you will be amazed by the recently completed renovation of the historic Barn.)

Remember that we will be greeted with an uncustomary chill this Sunday, so dress warmer than you're used to, embrace this first mild taste of winter, and enjoy the expansive hills with their deep meandering stream reentrants.  It will be so good to see you all as our Autumn season draws towards a close.
