Thanks for HVO Dual Event

Topic created by KathleenG on Sun Nov 21, 2010 at 6:34 pmFirst off, thanks for a nice day in the woods. Quite a nice park, even with all the tough climb!
Second - if event organizers found a wooden walking stick leaning against the picnic table, it's Larry's. He WOULD loose it on an event far, far from home, run by another club! Guy O, or anyone else in that neck of the woods attending DVOA events fairly regularly, Larry would love to have his "bramble basher" back again. We do plan to be at Ridley, but if the stick doesn't make it back until later, it is welcome, with much gratitude, whenever it does make it back into DVOA territory, and Larry's hands, again!
Thanks,

Reply by DaveDarrah on Sun Nov 21, 2010 at 8:48 pmHVO'ers: Thanks for a great meet. Well worth the trek up from Penn's Woods. A superb day to wander around a very sweet venue.
To share a navigational funny: We programmed the parking lot coordinates into my Garmin (how many of you can guess where I'm going with this) and used it for our ride to the park. Well, it did a great job of getting us within a few meters of the lot, while on the east-west road just north of the park. We knew we were in trouble when Lady G said 'navigate off road to destination.' A little backtracking, and the web directions got us to the proper destination. I'll be kind, and not bore you with my subsequent navigation errors while running a very nice Green course.
Thanks again to all for a fun time in NJ.

Oh, and Dave: Real orienteers don't use GPS!
Lost & Found (beside's Larry's stick, which was found): a Camelbak. -
Reply by FredR on Mon Nov 22, 2010 at 5:38 pmHere's a new one:"I've got thorns stuck in places only the TSA would find them"Seriously, great woods--I hope to get back this way again some time. Reminds me of my old neighborhood in CT.There was one leg that seemed definitely at odds with the course notes about avoiding brambles--hence the thorns. I also had a GPS data logger ripped from by pocket in that area, but its not likely anyone was taking the same route I took, so it might never be found... But just in case, it was white with a blue rubber casing. Thanks

Reply by Guy-O on Sun Nov 28, 2010 at 12:56 pmMy apologies for the delay in posting results. We still need to fix some questionable times/DNFs.
The e-punch snafu that caused strange splits -- like 1+ hours to all first controls -- among other things, was Daylight Savings Time related. Specifically, the controls units were still on DST, while the start and finish units had been changed to Standard time. -
