Star Village Score-O update
-
Topic created by brambles6 on Tue Jul 5, 2016 at 6:17 pmSince Star Village is a Score-O the usual length/climb rules don't apply. However, if all controls were run in linear sequence (big "if" there), then the length would be 11.7 K, so 90 minutes is doable for SOME of us.
The current forecast for the 10th is dry, partly cloudy, and a high of 87. Most of the terrain is under canopy so there will be some relief. Come early and beat the heat!

Reply by ErikEddy on Tue Jul 5, 2016 at 6:56 pmSee you there. I also enjoy score-o as it adds an additional element of strategy. A few questions:What are the penalties for being late? Are different controls worth different points?Do you get a map preview or are you on the clock right away?

Reply by Steve on Tue Jul 5, 2016 at 10:11 pmThere are 30 flags, numbered 32 to 90, even numbers only. The flags are worth the points of the flag (flag 46 = 46 points). Ties will be broken by first runner back in. There is a 90 minute time limit, with a one point per second penalty for overtime. You will flip your map after you punch start. There are three water stops, you may want a canteen. This map is steep, I will be impressed if anyone cleans house. Petr has updated the map again, so as of April it was accurate. When updateing, he found over 350 root stocks that were 2 meters tall. Less than that he did not map. Because many root stocks fell on contour lines, which he would have had to break, he made them green x's. I had to keep reminding myself about that while field checking.Looking forward to a good day. Hope to see many of you.Steve

Reply by Steve on Wed Jul 6, 2016 at 7:34 pmDue to the constraints of Sport-ident, I have to go with a 60 point per minute penalty, instead of a 1 point per second penalty.

Reply by Guy-O on Wed Jul 6, 2016 at 10:11 pmSounds more like constraints of OE...

Reply by ErikEddy on Mon Jul 11, 2016 at 7:40 amWell done. Lehigh was a great summer venue- I was surprised how clean the woods are this time of year. Also thought the score was a good format this time of year. Will be back!

Reply by Steve on Mon Jul 11, 2016 at 8:45 amWhat a perfect day. Thanks go out to everyone that came to the score o. Without competitors I think I would cry. Before things got started, Roger Hartley and Len Pollicelli helped set up equipment. At registration, Roger, Sharon Siegler and Sally Reynolds manned the fort.On the computer, Sandy Fillebrown, Kathy Urban, Patty Pollicelli and Rick Reynolds kept things in order. (Sandy also managed to clean up my poor attempt to set up the program, and then defeated a balky printer interface.)Instruction duties were carried out by Sharon and Roger. (We had at least four groups that had never orienteered.)And finally, Ron Bortz, Roger and Rick helped me pick up flags. while Sharon and Sally loaded the vehicles. (Roger drove to the water stops, which are always more work.)Thank you everyone, it takes a (star) Village to put on an event.
