Course Setter for Private Event?

Topic created by BrianGildea on Wed Feb 17, 2016 at 12:10 pmHey,I'm exploring the possibility of having a course setter stage a private event. I am unfamiliar with this entire process. It would be a smallish informal event where basically small groups of guys orienteer their way through some checkpoints on a saturday, this spring/summer somewhere in the poconos.I would like to talk with someone that could educate me on everything (options, costs, expectations, etc). Hopefully someone can orienteer me through this process... And any information would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to reach out to me directly at btgildea@gmail.comBrian

Reply by edscott on Wed Feb 17, 2016 at 4:40 pmYour event would need to be on an existing map done to Orienteering standards so the only viable choices in the Poconos are Hickory Run and the Delaware Water Gap. The course setter would need to know the experience level of the participants and the length of time you expect them to be in the woods. Either of these areas could support runs from one to 24 hours. Another possibility would be to attend our scheduled event on July 10 being held on the Star Village map on South Mountain South of Lehigh University. It is not exactly in the Poconos, but a score format would give your teams the option to do as many or as few controls as they are capable of within a set time limit.
