Like the stricken US Navy Ship USS Correy, At June 6th- 1944 - D Day after being cut in two by a D-Day arty shell, I too "Hoist" my Semaphore Flags " This DVOA ship Needs HELP!"
Now that I have your attention after my small History Lesson (the ship did not spell DVOA of course the rest is accurate) , I have 220 Plus Scouts enrolled at Quail Hill and "confirmed", and need to 'Emplore' helpers to Attend with Me an a core of others - and the E punch crew and Course setter Doug Sevon to volunteer. I specifically need more Map Reader - TRAINERS AND Registrars helpers- ALL DAY, not just in the beginning ( i have troops and Scouts coming spread (rate about 25 each quarter hour) ... spread out evenly all day) . I have a minimal volunteer crew (so far) , and have some untrained Scouts whom will help, but Please email me or contact me using Kents volunteer DVOA electronic service to pick a service time. E punch computer usage training will likewise be offered by a Great O meet Person and volunteer Kathy Urban, my hero!!!
I offer "good will" and worker Cookies and hot tea and Ice tea (As weather forcast is for a warmer weekend than for yesterdays A meet) . For the Parking Lot vol Crew (I need to pack them in) I offer 2 folding chairs for a Pair of parking lot helpers and a comfy warm blanket/tent if its breezey. So please come over to a Balmy Manalapan, NJ this Saturday and check out this great O meet offering of Doug's design. Many hands will make light duty. Yours in Scouting .... -
Reply by BRycharski on Wed Nov 10, 2010 at 12:45 pmHello All, Meet (ED director) notes. Quail Hill camp Courses are all ready (map wise), hope you all have recuperated from the Hickory A meet courses and runs last weekend to do A fair-Hill and Quail Hill double- trouble course. 250 Scouts are coming, but are staggered with quarterly arrival times for parking lot efficiency and to keep e punch and registration lines mostly low.
All water features are normal to low. Swamps are mostly dry. Leaves are mostly dropped (some random tree leaves still holding on of course).
Please park where attendents and or signs direct orienteers
Please Do not park in the "first lot to the right" upon entry to the Quail Hill camp property, thats reserved for the laser Tag private operation at the Camp. Proceed straight thru camp past the Start area at 10 MPH spped limit with runners present to get cars the open fields/parking area in the center of camp.
We have flush toilets (his and hers at Quail Hill); and in campsites - various pit latrines. We have heard that the Camp trading post will be open for sodas, camp trinkets and snac foods with extra sugar content usually.
Please DVOA runners do not run or cut thru tent campsites. Stick to "main" roads, jeep paths and footpaths which I have asked be keep clear of tents. Orienteering markers will not be located in any tent sites. Think of established tent "campsites" as uncrossable swamps please.
I still need a few more relief volunteers at this event so please ask me if I need help on Saturday. Its my standard various delicious "Cookie" Bribes and cool Ice Tea for all workers (and apples for any ex-California city managers). As a fameous Star Trek next generation actor stated numerous times, it wil be a gloryous orienteering event! Come on over and check us/Quail Hill camp ... out on Saturday
