Reply by edscott on Mon Nov 23, 2015 at 0:56 amBig turnout today. Haven't seen the numbers yet, but it seemed almost back to what we got nearly every week a couple years ago. What was the key? Weather was OK. Leaves were down. We were at French Creek? We've missed a couple weekends this fall. Maybe people were just taking advantage of one of the last events of the season. Whatever made this one work we need to repeat it every time. Comments welcome. We want to build a schedule that will draw over 100 starts every week. Other than scout meets, training weekend, dual events, and A events, we've only done 100+ twice this year. in 2012 we had 13 regular events that drew over 100 starts.

Yes, great turnout!
It's tough to measure impact, but I put in a 2 week ad on Facebook for just $20 ("Last event of the season in Berks/Chester!") and we had good engagement on Facebook. I don't know if that magically attracted anyone new, but it at least reminds members that aren't checking the website that often.
Non-funded posts on FB get something like 100 views, not many comments, and <10 people that say they are going or interested (usually <5), a few likes. 58 people were "maybes" or "going" to the French Creek event. 68 "likes"... 2000+ views.
Honestly, location and recent lack of events close to that location was probably a key driver (+ Frank magic). I'll account myself for at least 10 locals :).

Reply by edscott on Tue Nov 24, 2015 at 10:03 pmMakes sense.... Years ago we boosted participation by getting newspaper coverage in small local papers or the Philly "Weekend Sections". That is more or less the equivelent of today's facebook ad and could reach a wider audience through a single outlet. It would be good to track all non members and new participants at registration to see how they heard of us. I know the question is often asked, but as far as I know the numbers are not recorded so the data is not available for us for planning our publicity strategy.
