Topic created by robw on Mon Sep 14, 2015 at 8:23 pmWhite and Yellow courses are on the 1:5000 Camp Daddy Allen map. All other courses are on the 1:10000 Sand Springs Lake map.
Registration is in the Camp Daddy Allen dining hall. All courses finish in front of the dining hall, and download will be just inside the dining hall. Please remember to download even if you do not finish your course, so that we know you are out of the woods and do not have to send out a search party. There are two starts. White and Yellow courses start just northwest of the Camp Daddy Allen dining hall. All other courses start north of Sand Springs Lake. That start location is about a 20-25 minute walk from Camp Daddy Allen. The walk to the start will be streamered. It is also possible to drive to this start. It is about a 5 minute drive and there is ample parking nearby, but if you park there you will need to get back to your vehicle after finishing at Camp Daddy Allen. There will be a map at registration showing directions to and the location of this start.White and Yellow courses: These courses will stay in and near Camp Daddy Allen. The courses cross over the park road by the entrance to Camp Daddy Allen, but otherwise the only vehicle traffic will be orienteers driving through the Camp.Orange, Brown, Green, Red and Blue courses: Near the start there is a new road and some new buildings around the Sand Springs Lake swimming area, but these should have minimal impact upon upon route choices. All of these courses will cross a main park road with a 25 mph speed limit, and orange, red and blue courses will also cross Hickory Run and the one-way road paralleling it. Unless there is heavy rain just before the event, Hickoy Run can be crossed without getting much more than feet and ankles wet, and there are also bridge crossing options. Because there has been little rain in the Poconos in the past 6 weeks, many of the features mapped as small ponds and streams are currently dry, although they are still distinct features. Areas mapped dark green and medium green are usually rhododendron and mountain laurel, and very slow going, although there are some unmapped deer trails. Light green areas often have some saplings to limit visibility, but some of these areas have opened up since the map was made and are not much different from the white woods.Control pick-up will begin no later than 2:30 p.m. for controls east of the main park road, and no later than 3:00 p.m. for all other controls. -

Howdy all. I wanted to add something to this discussion. For those coming from the Philly area or points south, the new "EZPASS" only interchange is OPEN in the vicinity of Hickory Run. It will put you onto PA 903. From there head NE and turn left onto PA 534. It will save you about 15-20 minutes in travel time to Daddy Allen, comapred to going up to I-80 and around the horn to 534.
Cheers,
Rich

Reply by Steve on Mon Sep 21, 2015 at 4:54 pmToo bad that Erik posted this after I went to Hickory Run. (Yes, there are several of us at the camp Friday morning each year)The answer would have been yes, but you would have had to made contact with Fred early enough for him to assure the map printing and start time were taken care of. Perhaps we should make that option available for next year, and get it published in a more timely fashion.
