Website events slow to come up

Topic created by cmarcus on Wed Jul 15, 2015 at 8:47 amI've noticed that the events page www.dvoa.org/events/sked/index.php is slow to come up, compared to other pages. It used to be fine and fast.

Reply by edscott on Wed Jul 15, 2015 at 9:53 amAgree it has been very slow. At times I've just moved on and come back later when it was working. I just read that the site is being transfered to a new server and suspect that is the source of the current problems.

Reply by BobGross on Wed Jul 15, 2015 at 10:08 amI'll look into it. This has happened in the past when event directors copy and past their event news directly from their Word file into the forms used for the database. Microsoft adds a lot of markup in the code that we don't want to process.I've cleaned out some of the junk I found in the database this morning and hopefully it will correct itself later today.

Reply by furlong47 on Wed Jul 15, 2015 at 7:54 pmI find all of the website to typically be very slow. Reading the e-board is sometimes almost painful as it takes an eternity to load each thread and another eternity to go back to the listing.

Reply by rgbortz on Thu Jul 16, 2015 at 9:37 pmHave had all of these "slow" problems and more, particularly with DVOA's site. But then I got my new MacBook Pro. All is resolved. Too much junk on the old computer, besides it died. Can't believe how fast this thing is.......for everything.

Rather than post all event info right in the schedule page (which makes what used to be 5-lines max, take a whole page), wouldn't it be better to link to new pages with more detail? Or have a "show more" (default) / "show less" button.
