Well, Summer is here and the heat and green makes Orienteering a whole new experience. Running is sloooow and navigation is sloooow...

For all of you who came out and faced the challenge, thanks for coming out and I hope you got some time to smell the roses as you were being torn by their thorns. Can you believe some people ran in shorts???

These events take a lot of work and we all know how an event director is just a small part of the effort.

So here I wanted to thank everyone who worked so hard to pull this off.

Our course setter, Bob Myers planned, streamered and hung most of the controls. Bob had to find all those .5 meter boulders and pits before they had an orange bag hanging on them. Thanks for using long streamers so I could hang a few controls or I might still be crashing around in the ferns.

Control hanging - Bob Myers, Mary Frank and Chris Gross. Thanks Chris for hauling all that water into the woods I'm sure it was appreciated by a lot of people on Sunday.

Map bagging - Chris and Deni Gross.

Start crew - who put in a whole day greeting and cheering people into the finish. Steve Reepes, Bob Myers, Ralph Tolbert, Rob Wilkison, Mark Frank.

Registration - Dave Morgan, thanks for putting in a whole day at the tables. Also Lisa Carter, Mary Frank and I'm sure many more who jumped in while I was at starts.

Epunch table - Kathy Urban, Erik Eddy, Nancy Sharp and Ali Bortz who hung in there till the end.

Control pickup - Petr Hartman, Galina Rokhinson, Ed Scott, Ron Bortz and Erik Eddy. 

And all those people who jumped in and carried equipment, instructed beginners, supported the event crew and made a very hot day enjoyable for me.

Please post the names of anyone I missed.

...and thanks to Bob G and Bob M for doing all the preparation for this event. Yes the woods was green and it was hot, thorny, and sometimes quite overgrown, but that's summer conditions in SE PA.  Tactics that work in October aren't going to work in late June.

Thanks Hugh for posting the routegadget.  I really enjoyed seeing Carol's GPS route on green.  Is she still running?

Maybe it was the compass she borrowed from me. I told her it points north.

It does appear there was an issue with 180s going on. But did she really exit stage left like that?

My guess is that the GPS track shows pre and post course route and the long line to the left is via car.

That was my guess.. and why I said she was hiding near Douglassville where the line stops.
