Spring Season Opens Sunday March 14th
Come out for the first warm weather local meet of the year this Sunday at Tyler State Park. White through Red courses plus a Sprint course will be available (see below for course details).
Registration will be in student parking lot A at the Bucks County Community College (275 Swamp Rd, Newtown, PA). Restroom facilities will NOT be available on the college campus.
Volunteers to run the meet are still needed so please sign-up if you can help.
Remember to turn your clocks forward as Daylight Saving Time starts on the 14th.
Course Setter Notes
The severe snowfall in recent months has left the park in a muddy mess near any creeks and marshes. This has left the options for courses more limited and shorter than usual.
Tyler orienteering is very fast. If you have ever wanted to move up in category this is the park to do it in.
The following are the course offerings:
| Course | Length | Climb | Controls |
|---|---|---|---|
| White | 2.75 km | 30 meters | 12 |
| Yellow | 2.48 km | 30 meters | 8 |
| Orange | 4.5 km | 65 meters | 10 |
| Brown | 2.9 km | 30 meters | 13 |
| Green | 5.3 km | 75 meters | 12 |
| Red | 6.8 km | 95 meters | 15 |
| Sprint | 1.9 km | 20 meters | 10 |
All of the courses will cross park roads so caution should be exercised at all times. All courses will also cross the campus of Bucks County Community College. Please be courteous to the property.
All water features are very full! This may impact your route choices.
Below are specific notes for the individual courses:
- White-at the start follow the streamers to the first control. The mapped path has been obscured recently.
- Brown-most of the course is on the campus. Your maps are printed on 1:5000 scale to make it more readable. It will not have a legend printed on it.
- Green and Red-there will be a box of 4 controls that can be taken in any order. All of them must be punched in order for your course to be complete.
- Sprint-this is part of the 2010 North American Sprint Series. It is on the short side and very easy navigation in an "urban" environment. I encourage anyone that is curious to give it a try. The map is printed on 1:5000 scale with descriptive text on the clue sheets.
