DVOA is a 100%-volunteer driven organization. All the staff you see at an event, and behind the scenes are volunteers. Please consider thanking them when you see them at an event – and contributing, so we can all enjoy our orienteering adventures.
When you volunteer to plan, organize, or day-of-help for part of an event – you are enabling dozens and sometimes hundreds of people to enjoy a day of orienteering adventure! It can also feel like a big job. The links in this section contain lots of useful information based on the experience gained from smoothly organizing events over many years.
- Getting Started
- Want to help at an event, but don’t know where to start?
- Sign up online or walk up to the registration table at an event and ask “how can I help?” – there will often be something easy to do right away – like helping hand out maps, or giving an existing volunteer a quick break.
- If you’re up for more time on the maps – just ask if you could help pick up some controls at the end – extra hands are always welcome!
