Notes: This event will be pin punch as all our available epunch equipment is needed for next weekends events.
ED/CS Notes:
Course
Camp Delmont has suffered some recent storm damage, and falling leaves have obscured most trails, which were not very visible to start with. A few streamers will help those on the B course keep on the trail, however, the B course will be challenging for those new to orienteering. Take advantage of instruction at the start, or go as a team with a more experienced person. While small streams were dry, unmapped wet areas were encountered. Rocks and boulders are often wet and slippery. Take care!
The archery/rifle range is marked as out-of-bounds. The fence surrounding the area is very difficult to see and is down in many places. Take care!
Score- O
A Score-O is an orienteering event in which the controls may be visited in any order, but time is limited. Controls may have different point values; greater points are assigned to controls that are more difficult to locate or that are greater distance from the start. The orienteer must decide how many controls can be visited within the set time limit. Penalty points are applied to those out for longer than the set time.
The time limit is 90 minutes for both courses. The point value each control is 10 x the first digit of the control number. In other words, control number 37 has a point value of 30, control number 55 has a 50 point value. The penalty is 30 points for each minute or fraction of minute you exceed 90 minutes. Course planning is critical, you will not receive your map before your "out time".
There are 2 water stops marked on the clue sheet, plan your course accordingly.
If you have never done a Score-O before, here are a few tips:
Wear a watch and get back in 90 minutes or less, or suffer a substantial penalty.
Take a few minutes at the start to plan a route.
You can find the controls in any order.
For this event, the higher control numbers get you more points.
Course A
This is the advanced course suitable for those experienced with Brown, Green, Red, or Blue courses. This course over 12 K to visit all controls.
Course B
This course is suitable for those comfortable running Yellow or Orange. This course is NOT recommended for those very new to Orienteering. Hints, Assistance, and Route Planning will be available for the "B" course. The B course is over 6 K to visit all controls. You do not have to visit all controls to have a satisfying time in the woods.
Miscellanies
Primitive facilities are available near registration/start/finish area. Plan accordingly!
