Course Setter: Daniel Barker and see choices to Volunteer to help at this event 🙏
ED/CS Notes:
Location: Batsto Village, 4110 Nesco Rd, Hammonton, NJ 08037. Follow Orange and White Orienteering Signs when you get close to the park. The event arena and registraion is at the picnic area ring on the north side of the Batsto Village Visitor Center parking lot. Restrooms are located on the west side of the Batsto Village Visitor Center building proper. Please use the restrooms that have direct egress from the outside. Avoid using the restrooms inside the museum unless you visit the museum, of course.
Hours: Registration is from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM.
Course closing: Because the land manager requires us to vacate the village at sunset, control pick up will begin at 2:30 PM sharp. Be out of the woods by 2:30PM!
Course Notes: Cyclone Sandy passed through this area recently. There are new unmapped rootstocks with several snapped trees and many downed branches of variuos sizes.
Zac has designed these courses to present route choices around or through the knee to waist high blueberry bushes. A few areas of dark green is green briars which you will want to avoid. The area marshes are normal to dry.
As always be wary of ticks. We have not encountered any chiggers in the last month but if the weather warms they may re-emerge.
There are wood fences that are marked as crossable fences on the map. Please do not climb on these fences. There are two mandatory marked crossing areas on the map for the Green, Red, Blue runners. One of these crossing areas is the entrance to the village and the other crossing point is a closed gate with a narrow openning between the gate and the fence that may be used as a crossing point.
All courses have at least one water stop at a control as designated by a cup symbol on the Clue Sheet.
Fees:
- Map fee $9 (non-member) or $6 (member of DVOA, QOC, SVO, HVO, or other O-USA club, as well as for scout and JROTC groups).
- Electronic punch rental is $1 (non-member) and free to DVOA members.
- Compass rental is $1.
Volunteers: Orienteering is a social sport and a community. Each event takes a village to put on, and an extra pair of hands is always welcome. If you can
help, we will find a job that matches your strengths and schedule--even if for 15-30 min, before or after your course. Please sign up on the DVOA volunteer
page, or contact the meet director.
Note: This event is sandwiched between Shotgun and muzzleloader deer hunting season. We will be setting contols out Sunday morning and all controls must be out of the woods by sunset. Make sure you note the reduced event times (10:30 - 12:30).
