BATSTO – Sunday, 6 Dec 15
The Finale of the 2015 NJ Autumn Tripleheader
Welcome to the “wilds” of the South Jersey Pinelands. Along with 4 Mile Circle in the snow last March, Batsto provides the alpha and omega of DVOA’s 2015 schedule. We have ordered weather that avoids the snows of March, perfect low 50’s day in non-stop sun, but who knows for sure…… J
We are offering a full set of courses, White through Blue, to take you through blueberry understory (but without all that green stuff attached to their branches), parallel trails and fire ditches, gently rolling hills everywhere, and magical white woods strewn with pine needles featuring dramatic man-made contours and knolls nearing Finish…..everything you have come to love about Batsto State Park.
We could certainly use help at the event. We have our core group, but many hands (and relief shifts throughout the day) make light enjoyable work for all. Please contact me at bburg@comcast.net if you can help. (Oh! and bathrooms are a short walk across the parking lot to the Visitors Center.) Starts are the normal 10 to 1 window, but we will start Pick-Up at 3pm due to dwindling daylight.
And for all of you who might like to check out historic Batsto Village, consider Batsto’s special Winter Celebration at Historic Batsto Village from 1 to 4PM after you’ve run your courses. Winter at Batsto.
Any groups who plan to attend, please contact Bob Burg at bburg@comcast.net so that we can estimate how many course maps we need to print.
Come join us in this uniquely beautiful terrain to stretch out your legs in the next to last O-event of the season (as well as a chance burn off all that Thanksgiving self-indulgence) before Winter hibernation.

Course Setter Notes:
I have never designed courses at Batsto before…..and am I amazed! After years of course-setting Pakim Pond/4 Mile Circle’s narrow corridors of dramatic hillsides, Batsto offers wonderful rolling terrain (sometimes dramatic) in every direction, which allows courses to go anywhere that works. Be ready to read subtle, but clear contours on a superbly accurate map. (Thank you, Vladimir and Eric.) I’ve worked to set controls in the most feature-full and beautiful terrain. Hope you have a good time.
Near Start and Finish (both near Registration) there are some areas of white woods that now feature expanding areas of dense pine saplings which we couldn’t overprint on the maps. But the trails still confidently get you through those areas. And on all advanced courses (while Vadim back in 2009 and I in more recent years have done our best at mapping new trails), out at your courses’ farthest reaches you may encounter some unmapped, but established bike trails. So please be ready to navigate terrain rather than trails.
Hope you enjoy the courses. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed designing them. All feedback is welcomed.
