ED/CS Notes:
Welcome to the 2012 Ridley FoxTrot, a December Orienteering Extravaganza at Ridley Creek State Park!
Ridley Creek State Park (affectionately known as Ridley) is perhaps the most popular DVOA orienteering destination, a favorite of experienced orienteers, novices, and scout groups. Ridley is centrally located in the DVOA heartland, with easy access across the region, and only 16 miles from center city Philadelphia. A multiuse park, Ridley features 2,606 acres of gently rolling terrain with woodlands, meadows and a rich trail network bisected by Ridley Creek. Ridley orienteering places a special premium on route choice and is a fun outdoor experience for both novices and experienced orienteers alike.
This year we are continuing the long tradition of December Orienteering at Ridley with an Inaugural Ridley FoxTrot, an end-of-the year orienteering extravaganza at Ridley Creek State Park. In addition to the full range of orienteering courses set by the first time course-setter extraordinaire Chris Young, you will get a chance to test your map-reading skills with the Ridley Orienteering Riddle, taste our homemade hot refreshments in the DVOA Junior Fun(d)raiser, and enter a membership renewal Ridley Raffle! Make sure to stop by the DVOA Junior Program Kick-Off Party, and Adopt-A-Meet for the 2013 DVOA Local Event Schedule!
Let’s get ready to Riddle!
Location: Ridley Creek State Park, 1023 Sycamore Mills Rd, Media, PA 19063-4398. Follow Orange and White Orienteering Signs when you get close to the park. The event arena is at Pavilion 17.
Hours: Registration is from 10 AM until 1 PM.
Course closing: Because of daylight savings time, control pick up will begin at 3 PM sharp. Be out of the woods by 3PM!
Course Notes: All courses orange and above have at least one water stop at a control on their course. Green and red courses may visit 1 or 2 additional water stops indicated by a cup symbol on the map which will be along likely routes to and from controls, and along major trails or roads.
Ridley Orienteering Riddle: Finish your day with the Ridley Orienteering Riddle, a fun way of testing your map-reading skills and taking your navigation prowess to a new level!
The instructions to the Riddle Rules and Clues will be provided 11:45 AM at the Pavilion. You will be able to practice your map precision at the two model stations before taking on the challenge set by Karl Ahlswede, a US Trail Orienteering Team member. The Riddle will be open to challengers from 12 PM until 2 PM, with 10 controls to complete in 66 minutes! The Answer to the Riddle will be revealed at 2:30PM at the Ridley Raffle.
For those interested in learning more about how to solve the Riddle, here are a few helpful links: DVOA Trail Orienteering Page, and an in-depth explanation from Orienteering USA.
Ridley Raffle: Join DVOA or renew your DVOA membership at Ridley FoxTrot and receive a free entry to the Ridley Raffle! Raffle winners will be announced (and prizes awarded) at 2:30PM.
DVOA Junior Fun(d)raiser: Warm up with a cup of tea or hot chocolate and enjoy homemade soup at the finish pavilion! You can munch on hotdogs as well! All proceeds will go to benefit DVOA Juniors.
Don’t be shy! If you are a junior orienteer or if you are an adult supporter of the DVOA junior program and would like to help at the meet in a limited role—this is a job for you! Just ask at the meet or contact Janet Porter.
DVOA Junior Program Kick-Off Party: Lots of exciting things in the works for kids in DVOA. If you are a junior orienteer, a parent, or an adult supporter of the DVOA junior Program, be sure to stop by the 2013 DVOA Junior Program Planning Party at 1PM. For questions, please contact Janet Porter.
Adopt-A-Meet! If you would like to be an Event Director or a Course Setter for the 2013 DVOA Season, sign up at Ridley!

Please sign up on the DVOA volunteer page, or contact the meet director.
See you at Ridley!
