ED/CS Notes:

For the penultimate DVOA event of the year, we would like to invite you to Ridley Creek State Park on Sunday, December 4, 2011.

While Ridley Creek is well known for being verdant, and has some stands of multiflora rose, this time of the year brings out the best in Ridley terrain. With the leaves off, the visibility is generally very good, and much of the forest used by the courses is very open. Most courses, especially the longer advanced course, feature a lot of trail-based route choice, allowing runners to avoid most of the green.

Generally, the map has aged well, without momentous changes. Rootstocks are the most notable change. There are many new ones--some quite large--and some of the mapped rootstocks are almost gone. Some advanced runners will have a control on a rootstock which is barely there. But, with the visibility in that area, there will be no problem seeing the control.

Another difference that some of you may notice is that some of the mapped trails have withered. In a few cases, they may not be easy to find in the terrain. The good news is that trails necessary for getting in and out of controls and for mid-course navigation are generally as mapped.

Bathrooms: There are heated bathrooms located at the Park Office. It may be convenient to stop by the park office on the drive to the event arena. If you miss it on the way in, it will be about a short 1 kilometer walk from the event parking lot. Most other bathrooms, with the exception of the bathroom by Pavilion 17 have been closed for the winter.

We hope to see you all there! This should be a not-to-miss event, perfect for racing and fun for the whole family!
