Welcome to the kick-off event for the normal orienteering season. Since it has been awhile since the snowy President's Cup, everyone should be itching to get out for a fun walk/tromp/run through the woods. The courses get you to many parts of the park: the Wissahickon Creek to the east with a nice section of evergreens, up along the ridge through typical PA forests, and through the central part with with a dense network of trails.
Registration will be located in Parking Lot #5 (near the Hawk Watch). The restrooms at this lot are open. Thanks to Mary Frank who has successfully dealt with the park so we can now collect the registration fees in the park.
The Orange, Green, and Red courses will cross Joshua Road (which bisects the park) twice. Use extreme caution when crossing as this is a busy road, and one of the crossings has limited sight. At each crossing there will be controls on either side of the road, and the time between these controls will not count in the total course time.
Since the park is narrow with a ridge that runs almost the entire length of the park, we've tried not to run you up and down the hill too many times. This has led to courses (particularly the advanced courses) with sections that may feel almost sprint-like with short legs and more controls than normal (plus the 4 controls used to cross the road).
