Join us on November 10th at Fair Hill, McCloskey Pavilion for our Veterans Day Event. Tom Overbaugh has designed a challenging set of courses for a Fall day in the woods of Cecil County, Maryland. Start and finish will be at McCloskey Pavilion, a short drive on the trail from the North Appleton Road lot. Signs will guide you to the parking field from the lot.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Control pick-up will begin no later than 3:00 pm due to limited daylight (sunset is at 4:52 pm). If you expect to take up to 3 hours to complete your course, please start by 12:00 noon so that you will be finished by 3:00 pm.
All courses cover terrain east of Big Elk Creek. The map was produced in 2013. Some updates have been made for this event to reflect changes to trails and vegetation. Most of the rough open fields have been mowed but there are some where higher grass is still present. You may notice stacks of hay bales in the fields - these are not shown on the map. Leg protection is recommended as there are sporadic thorns and undergrowth in some areas. When transitioning from woods to field or vice versa, pay careful attention to vegetation and trail mapping when selecting your route. Dark green areas and areas of green slash are generally thorny and impenetrable.
