Notes: Ready for a snow adventure in the NJ Pinelands? Nothing like what\\\'s on the ground over in PA, so this should be fun!!! We will post the latest update Saturday evening after hanging flags in the woods.
ED/CS Notes:
WE ARE ON This event should prove to be a fitting start to DVOA\\\'s \\\"Spring\\\" schedule, as well as an ode to one of the coldest winters ever in the Delaware Valley. NJ got considerably less snowfall than PA (maybe 4\\\"-6\\\" at 4 Mile Circle), which will be reduced by half by Sunday\\\'s event. We will be hanging flags (bright orange in a totally white landscape!) tomorrow. Tune in for the latest update Saturday night (by now tonight), runnable walkable in the final vestiges of winter\\\'s wonderland 2015, all in mid-40\\\'s sun. Come for the adventure, and bring a change of clothes (especially footware) for after you\\\'ve run your course. We\\\'re thinking this could be historic FUN.
Celebrate the Inaugural Event of the 2015 Orienteering Season!
4 Mile Circle – NJ Pinelands – March 8 updated Feb 17th
We invite you to pack up your cabin fever, shake off the cobwebs, recover your gaiters from storage and stretch out your legs in the special beauty of DVOA’s most unique terrain, the NJ Pinelands. 4 Mile Circle is the map that includes the Headquarters of the Brendan T Byrne State Forest (for decades what we called “Pakim Pond”). We will again meet just inside the park next to the Fire Tower near the park entrance. (Just follow the orange arrows to Registration.)
Come walk and/or run on trails of pine needles, sand, and moss, through blueberry and pin oak that hasn’t yet leafed, all on the first day of daylight savings, no less! That means you can get lost in the woods for hours before it starts getting dark.
In order to get shorter courses out into territory they rarely visit, there will be approx 1k walk to Start. (Note: We apologize beforehand, but the remote Start will require a minus 5m “climb” – yes, climb at 4 Mile Circle is demanding like no other).
We promise to have all the snow and cold weather removed from the park prior to the event, and have special-ordered a wonderful day in the 50\'s. (After the cold of this winter, 50\'s will feel like a beach day.) Whatever the weather, come ready for some fun in the woods.
