Event Director: Bob Agosta
Course Setter: Wyatt Riley and see choices to Volunteer to help at this event 🙏
ED/CS Notes:
Come on out! Weather looks solid, and we especially hope you like the course design - a collaboration between Bob Agusta, who\'s recent experience rising up from White through Orange was paired with Wyatt Riley\'s years of experience, incl. just 5-weeks after this event, representing DVOA & the USA at the 2014 World Championships in Italy.
And if that\'s not enough, we have what may be a US (or World?) first: In addition to the regular courses, we have an extra short course available (~Yellow level) - that is only available as a .pdf on your favorite internet-connected device.
Course Notes:
Safety first
- The park entrance to parking lot road is crossed by all courses - often more than once - cross with care.
- There\'s a modest amount of poison ivy scattered about in the deeper grass areas, and some of the forest - almost always below knee height. There are indoor restrooms with running water & soap right next to the finish if you\'re sensitive.
- As usual, there may be ticks out. Spray & check!
Map notes
- There are several out of bounds areas marked on the map with vertical purple overprint - which are farm animal pens, or just-sprouting corn fields. You are required to go around these - yes, through the deep grass, not the short corn. They are easy enough to avoid if you look ahead on the map.
- Some of the vegetation details have changed a bit - as happens rather quickly when it is mapped to 1:5000 detail. It has been updated somewhat in the vicinity of controls, and near several potential route choices, but don\'t expect it to match quite as well as it did in 2011.
- Last weekend’s courses at Star Village - with many controls in depressions - reminded us of the importance of finding the feature, not just looking for a flag. With the leaves finally out, after our late Spring, limited forest visibility will require similar skills here at Springton Manor.
Course notes
- Check your codes - at the 1:5000 scale, controls are often nearby.
- Watch your lines and take controls in order - due to the small scale, some longer courses have criss-crossing lines. Cross-overs: Orange (1), Green (3), Red (11 times!)
- E-map course - Bring your smart-phone or connected tablet - and you can try the (1.3km) pdf course after you finish your regular course - _only_ available electronically, as a .pdf you will get the full URL to, just after you punch start.
THe URL is http://goo.gl/mA19?? (with the last two characters only provided to you, when you start.)
Pinch-zoom-in as much as you like.
(All the regular White-Red courses remain, as usual, on paper only)
