Greetings from the Ringos

Topic created by CarolineRingo on Wed Jun 20, 2012 at 3:53 pmHello, everyone! Kent and I will be thinking of you during the summer meeting and wishing we could be there to share happy memories of our years with DVOA. We are now settled permanently in New Bern, North Carolina near three other generations of our family and we are enjoying the antics of our great grandchildren. We miss being able to hunt those elusive controls in the woods, but thanks to eboard and Route Gadget we can continue to keep in touch with what's going on in DVOA land. We send our very best wishes to all of you for a great year ahead.

Reply by CarolineRingo on Thu Jun 21, 2012 at 8:10 amThanks, Pat, for letting us know about Bert Nixdorf. The Nixdorfs and the Ringos were among the founding members of the Outdoor Club of South Jersey. It was at one of their club meetings in January 1968 that Harald Wibye of Norway, at Bert's invitation, showed a film and explained the Scandinavian sport of orienteering that he was trying to introduce in the USA. The Ringos tried it, liked it, and were hooked. The rest, as they say, is history... We owe Bert a big thank you for starting us in an activity that has brought us so much pleasure.
