Mt. Penn

Topic created by Orienteeringmom on Wed Jun 13, 2012 at 2:38 pmCould someone give me an idea as to where we are starting at Mt. Penn. Last time I went there I spend a better part of a half hour trying to find where we were and never saw any O signs while doing so. I rather not do that again so, Please give some kind of hint as to where we will be.
Thanks
Janet

Reply by rgbortz on Wed Jun 13, 2012 at 8:59 pmCheck the schedule page: it says the Fire Tower ; on the top of Mt. Penn, up from the Pagoda on Skyline Drive. Hopefully, and it now looks that way, there will be no thunder, lightning, hail, tornado, earthquake or other such calamity.

Reply by edscott on Thu Jun 14, 2012 at 7:44 amOne of the features on the web site is that if you go to the schedule page and click on the name of the map it takes you to a map showing the parking/registration area. The map is adjustable by scale and type (satellite, road map or topographical) so that the exact spot can be determined. The event director can select the normal spots from a pull down menu or email me and I can do it and add that location to the menu for future events.

Thanks Ron and Ed. I know about the map feature on the schedule. What I didn't know was whether the map was actually showing the reg. area or the park in general and Mt. Penn is one of our parks that has a number of different places we use for start. Thanks see you Sunday. -

Reply by kathyu on Sun Jun 17, 2012 at 5:21 pmThanks to all for a fun day. In case anyone is wondering, when I passed 51 I noticed it had been broken and someone had stacked the pieces neatly. So I snapped it back together. Did it work after that?

Reply by DaveDarrah on Sun Jun 17, 2012 at 8:01 pmEnjoyed the Brown course. Couldn't have been a nicer day to be in the woods. Many thanks to Ed and everyone else who had a hand in this one. Here's a few photos. Eight of you should be able to recognize yourselves. Three more of you will have to have some pretty good detective skills.

Reply by edscott on Sun Jun 17, 2012 at 9:03 pmControl 51 which was #7 on Orange was vandalized sometime between late Saturday afternoon and when the first Orange runner arrived. We have it back but it doesn't work. Don't know yet if it can be repaired or not.

Reply by furlong47 on Sun Jun 17, 2012 at 9:04 pmI had to laugh at the fire tower sign. (In Dave's pics) I think it is open 2 days per month: The Sunday before the 2nd Wednesday is one of them. The 3rd Saturday is the other one.

Reply by edscott on Sun Jun 17, 2012 at 9:37 pmIf someone wants to be an event director or course setter for a 2013 Mt Penn Pagoda event on a Sunday before the 2nd Wednesday of a month, let me know and we'll get it on the schedule.
