I wanted to thank the MANY volunteers that came out to run Core Creek so well.  We were lucky to get great support starting early, so we could get started early on what turned into a bright, sunny, hot day.

Thanks to Ken Miraski for helping hang controls and run Start, and Ron Cook for coming early to do all the zillions of jobs that pile up.  And my old friends Pat and Bob Burton came way early to set up the pavilion and Registration, keeping me from overlooking anything.  Sandy Fillebrown came to do the epunch computer for the early shift, and stayed all day with just an hour’s relief.

Thanks too to Roger Hartley, who did the training pretty much all day since I didn’t have a 2nd volunteer for that (and all his trainees made it back in one piece!).    Also to Andrea Hartley, Lisa Carter (who may have travelled the furthest to get here) and Mary Plunkett for carrying on with the smooth registration.

All the volunteers were terrific.  They ran it so well that at one point I could sit back in a lawn chair, kick my feet up and exclaim “This is the way Event Directing should be!”

Then the power went out;  end of my leisure.  The big Yellow Box was the only volunteer to quit on us 2 hours too early, stranding the printer which then locked up the computer.

I appreciate the people that drafted themselves to fill in and relieve people: Udaya Bollineni, Rick Whiffen, Dan Barker (who also recharged  the Yellow Monster long enough to squeak thru the rest of the day).   And finally the pick-up crew, Mary Plunkett, Ron Cook,  Bob Fink, Carol Fink (who somehow got lucky enough to pick up all the water controls),  and especially Eric Weyman, who waited and waited for one late-starting runner who promised they were fast to finally finish (my mistake for letting it happen).

Thanks too to Mary Frank, Ed Scott and Sandy Fillebrown for working pre-event to get the permit, advertise in the web site and print all the maps.  Special thanks to Bob Burg for taking on the biggest job of Course Setting, and for working so hard to add special events to the day.

We hope that people had a good time, enjoyed the exercise, the woods and the open fields.

And a huge Thank You to to Jim and Bob for introducing this area to many DVOA members by offering an advanced course.  I'm sure I'm not the only old timer that had never Orienteered here before.

Yes--thank you so much. I had never been to Core Creek, and I enjoyed it a lot! I hope we can get back there from time to time. I think it might be an interesting place to hold a day of 2 or 3 sprints so you can explore every corner of the park in bite-sized pieces.
